Some of them are tethered to the photo lab's printer, and allow the customer to have "real" photographic prints. Some are using dye sublimation printers built into the kiosk. Personally, I don't like the look of the dye sub prints, and I have seen some fairly serious fading issues within a very short time with them as well.
