This morning I grabbed a 105/2.8 ST and attached it to the istDS. I was
mostly curious to see how ell the lens would focus when stopped down.
Well, that part of the experiment worked better than expected. Using
apertures of F8 and F11, the finder was bright enough even for these old
eyes to easily focus, and to focus accurately.

However, what was even more surprising was the quality of the results. The
images needed little in the way of sharpening, and when photographing
telephone poles and trees against the contrasting sky, I saw no evidence of
purple fringing. Is this the sharpest lens in the box? Probably not,
especially when compared to some of the new, high-tech autofocus lenses.
But damn, the results were quite good and more than acceptable, and the
rendering was very nice. I'm going to try a SMC Tak at some point and see
how that works, and make a comparison between the ST and the K105/2.8
lenses.

Aperture simulator? No need for such archaic design when one can go even
more retro and obtain very good results <LOL
