My experience with driving in the UK (I've probably driven about 25,000 miles in the UK since 1993): it seems the average is to take double to triple the amount of time to traverse the same number of miles, on average, that it does in the USA despite having a generally higher M road average speed. A and B roads in the UK, equivalent to US state and county roads, are always much slower going for distance even if they are more fun to drive in the rural areas. The trek from where I live to where Shel lives can run pretty fast, if traffic is light as there are main roads (interstate and interstate bypass designation) nearly all the way. But there are nearly always difficult traffic slow downs due to the volume of traffic and the bridge crossing junctions along the way. It's much faster to get to San Francisco, which is only about 10 miles closer ... I can get there in 35 minutes if I avoid the rush traffic, with significantly less hassle. Getting to Shel's requires either circumnavigating or crossing San Francisco Bay ... Godfrey -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
