Faster than what? Faster than current lenses on pre-K100D bodies? Faster
than current lenses on the new bodies? Faster than Canon or Nikon? Faster
than a speeding bullet <LOL>? How important is AF speed compared to
focusing accuracy, especially at wide apertures, or the ability to focus in
poor lighting or low contrast situations, or with slower lenses (F4, 5.6)?

My understanding is that current lenses will focus faster on the new
K-series DSLR's than on earlier bodies, and may be faster still on the
K10D. Tatamiya seems to be saying the same thing and perhaps implying more:

"Accordingly, we have made a very
clean decision to eliminate any possible
use of AA alkalines altogether by
blocking the use of it even for the battery
grip. As a side effect of using Li-Ion batts,
AF motor power was strengthened,
consequently the AF speed gets faster."
