Very nice shot Godders. This area is called the Gloucester basin. I know it very well as the ITV office is literally a few yards from where this pic was shot (two buildings to the right - from the docks - of the military museum). The quays and waterway are part of the Gloucester- Sharpness Canal that joins up with the River Severn at Gloucester, and further down river at Sharpness where larger ocean-going vessels would dock and transfer their loads to the canal barges, years ago. From there, the barges would head to Gloucester where goods were stored in these warehouses. One of the warehouses is a waterways museum, well worth a look. The others consist of businesses and council offices, the remainder are converted / being converted into apartments (flats to me pal ;-) and there is a multi-million pound regeneration planned for this area over the coming decade. Gloucester (pronounced Gloss'tur BTW) has always been a shitty and poor relation to neighbouring Cheltenham where all the money and glitz is. Cheltenham has a world famous race-course. Gloucester had Fred West ! Hopefully it will recover some status with the regeneration, which it deserves. Gloucester does have one major attraction for me. My favourite piece of music is Ralph Vaughan Williams' 'Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis' and it was first performed publicly at Gloucester Cathedral in 1910. I'll be there on the hundredth anniversary to hear it the second time around ;-) Lovely photograph. -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=====| http://www.cottysnaps.com _____________________________ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
