I have the Commute XL model and have to agree (I chose the larger one as it can handle my PowerBook 15" as well as the slightly wider/ deeper photo portfolios I tend to carry around.)
The main compartment is a little awkward to get gear in and out of when I have the laptop in the bag, though, as it is long and somewhat narrow. It's certainly fine for use when carrying equipment on travel, and when using it as a shooting bag I just leave the laptop at home or in my hotel room so the bag is more suitable for field work. A set of padded lens divider pockets such as available for the Domke F802/F804 camera satchels works great with it too.
