I have a big ziplock plastic bag. Whenever I get a new lens, the front cap comes off and goes in this bag. The hood goes on the lens. The only time the front cap ever sees the lens again is if I decide to sell the lens at some point. Rear caps are different. I keep one on any lens that isn't on a camera.
