I keep trying to ignore this thread, but but happened to read this short 
post before deleting it. If the thing had a manufacturing cost of $35 it 
would cost about $350 retail. Since they put them in a lot of cameras 
that cost a lot less than that the comment is BS. Now $35 retail I could 
believe. However I guess I can see the engineering point of leaving 
something out that is no longer needed with current equipment. Sort of 
like they no longer supply a hand crank with cars, they did for several 
years after electric starters came out. I understand British build cars 
with Lucus starters had them up into the 50's <grin>.
