I responded because you asked me a direct question. I find it very  
rude on the part of the person I'm conversing with when I ask them a  
question and obtain no response. To be courteous, I always respond to  
questions directed specifically at me.

Frankly, I don't give a damn if you want to comport yourself as a  
whiny irritant or not; that's your problem.

This is how discussion on a discussion list is supposed to work:

- Post information you think is of interest to the forum.
- Comment on posts as you feel is appropriate.
- If a question is posed, offer a response with a sensible answer if  
you have information to offer.
- Discuss information presented if you have a question about it.
- Thank people for their response if it has proven helpful.
- If a question is directed specifically at you, respond. If the  
question is intended to bait you into a response, ignore it unless  
you want to continue the clever exchange.

I don't think there's anything unusual or incomprehensible about  
that. I will continue apropos.
