It's just a marketing concept, but one that camera makers have been applying to the marketplace for years. Sell em a camera cheap, then make money on the accessories. It's why Canon FD lens owners had a very valid reason to be pissed. Their lenses that would last several lifetimes were rendered obsolete by the very company that sold them, simply because Canon wasn't willing to support the lenses.
