I'm not sure about the Pentax unit, but the Nikon unit (AS-15) offers 
two features that the cheapo units don't. The first is the PC-Sync is 
threaded for locking cords (So the damn thing won't fall off) and the 
second is it has a locking hotshoe (unfortunately the old-style 
screw-down rather than the much nicer flip clamp they use on newer units).

Otherwise the cheapo units are essentially indistinguishable. I use a 
Kaiser one myself.
