The Sigma EF500 DG Super works well on my D,

Whichever the PTTL flash you'll use, keep all contacts perfectly clean, 
including those on the camera flange and lens mount. Over the years, I've 
been fooled a couple times by unreliable info exchange between camera and 
lens, leading to full power flash firing.
