        That's not the problem.  That can be done.  The problem is that on 
the K/M lenses, the aperture actuator lever is moved "all the way" 
whenever a shot is taken.  The lens stops down to wherever the ring was 
set to.

        On an A (or later) lens, the contacts tell the body what wide open 
is.  The body then moves the lever "part-way" to stop it down as much as 
it decides to.  The "part-way" is calibrated on the A and later, on the 
pre-A it is not and is meant to be all-or-nothing.
