Hi Chris,
I hope I'm not going to start another long thread...
There is a huge difference between the two cameras, enough
difference to justify a choice.
I know that if the final purpose is to take a shot you could
either use a K-1000 or an MZ-S or a PZ-1 with the same lens on
and that's all. You'll be able to have the shot anyway. But this
can be true for a certain % of pictures. Not all the possible
pictures.

I should tell you a story.
When the Z-1 (PZ-1) was released the press in Italy found it
quite amazing, because it was "too perfect" to be true but...
unuseful!
The commentators stated that cameras like that could be easily
used like P&S, but most of the features would have been a pain
to learn and use properly. Comments kind of "you must always
carry the instructions around" were frequent.
The Z-1p (PZ-1p) was a great step ahead in this regard, more
user-friendly, but the average camera user (and the magazines,
too) were still sceptical about the camera.
The things went quite differently when the MZ cameras hit the
market. Even with the evident lack of features of the MZ-5 (like
memory lock) the difference with the previous series was so big
that every word about the new camera was a praise.
The MZ-S is something like a mix between the two different
philosophies, and more than that. The first test appeared on a
Italian magazine about the new camera is very favourable.
One of the things that impressed the tester was the lack of
vibrations: "like a rangefinder camera" he wrote. He even wrote
that the MLU of the camera is redundant. I would have liked to
read something like that about the Z-1p (which I own)...

There is no mistake. Only a different way of conceiving a
camera.
And a different way to market it.

So, back to the choice: when I must do a purchase I try to read
and ask everything possible about what is available in the
market, and check more than twice my needs. And my wallet,
too... :)
But my needs come first.

To Artur: I used for a while a Chinon camera (CP-7 (m?), I
think); it is a kind of an upgraded ME super, but it cannot work
without batteries (the Super Program/Super A can't, too). It
worked fine, and had some features not available with the Super
A nor with the ME super (ie multiple exposure, DOF preview) .
Some Ricoh cameras are worth a look, too. There is more than a
Ricoh model comparable to the ME super, but I cannot recall the
names... I can check, anyway.

Gianfranco
