The OEM CD used to be the OS from Microsoft, there was very little trial software, sometimes things like the original beta version of MS Money. The other crap is often bulk filler supplied by the Manufacture, to punch up it's supplied software list. A company I worked for bought all it's programming work stations from Gateway, we got two CD's one of Micosoft's NT OS and one of the Gateway "enhancements". The frist thing we did when we got them was to take the OEM copy of the OS, (WinNT in this case), Format the Hard drive and install a clean version from the included MS installation CD. Then add drivers for the specific additional hardware, network cards, high res video cards etc. Once this was done you had a pretty clean install. The manufactures don't supply those Microsoft OEM CDs anymore. You didn't want most of the crap on the other CD, now you get neither.
