That's my understanding too, Keith. The Super Takumars and SMC Takumars in screw mount were reaching to be the best, aiming at Zeiss. With transition to K-mount, there was an interest in a few budget lenses, using the old Takumar name. I think the first was the simplified Takumar version of the fine SMC Pentax 2.5/135, and I believe there were a couple others, then several more recently.
