Well, I do that when it seems appropriate, but then subtle detail is lost. Honestly, I'm quite frustrated with this aspect of the camera/processing, although I'm sure it's as much my techniques as it is the dynamics of digital. Juan seems to get what I want in a lot of his work, and I've seen it in yours both on the web and in person. However, the example you posted clearly shows what I am trying to avoid. There's no detail in the darkest area of the image, and the area outlined in yellow shows a lot of noise compared to the clean black in the similar area of the other shoe. I'm looking for clean detail in zone 2, 3,and 4 and don't want to mask the noise with full black.
