I'm using an Apple Cinema Display 23" which is proving superb. It's expensive but worth it to me. Calibrates very nicely and has proven stable in calibration for months at a time. The best deal I've experience with personally is a Samsung 205bw. This is a widescreen (16:10) 20" model with DVI and VGA inputs. Found it available for as low as US$275 recently. My boyfriend bought one and I used it when the ACD 23" power supply fritzed out on me. Once calibrated to the same spec as the ACD, on-screen rendering was virtually identical. Build quality and design is a bit down compared to the Apple, don't know anything about durability. The native calibration is quite off from the ACD, but it has more than enough adjustability to bring it to the right rendering with a Gretag- Macbeth Eye One Display 2 unit. Samsung has a couple of higher spec models in the same size at still reasonable prices ... not entirely sure how they differ but I'd be able to work with this one without difficulty.
