The 22-bit A/D in K10D made me very curious about what MedF cameras have to offer. As Boris says, the dedicated MedF backs starts at 16 MP. But that's not the only way in which they stand out from 35mm.
In fact, all 35mm based DSLRs except Leica's R8 digital back deliver 12-bit raw files. Even the Canon 1DSmkII. In MedF, all offerings except Mamiya's ZD delivers 16-bit raw files. For most cameras, I have not seen any reference to A/D bit width. The Mamiya use 14 bit A/D to deliver 12 bit raw files. I think we can expect the Pentax 645D to deliver 16-bit raw files, and probably by ways of the same A/D as has the K10D. I expect the 645D to deliver higher image quality than the K10D, but the real question is whether the K10D is Good Enough. We had the same debate of digital vs 35mm film when the *istD was introduced, btw. Considering the price differece may determine the solution of the equation...:-) Jostein On 9/20/06, Boris Liberman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Jens, > > On 9/20/06, Jens Bladt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I am considering selling my MF ( 6x6) gear to help finance the K10D. > > Does the new 10MP camera with 22 bit colour depth mean it's time to ditch > > the 120-roll film equipment? > > Can I get the same image quality and resolution with the K10D? > > Please notice that even cheapest of MF backs start at 16 MP > resolution, or is it 20 MP?
