I don't have a 31mm but I have a 30. The 3mm1 is huge by comparison.
The FA 31 has a reputation of being an incredible lens, and it's a stop
and 1/3 faster. I like the 30mm on film but I find I don't use it much
on digital as the FA 20-35 f4 is more convenient to use, (no green
button to forget about), and only a stop slower than the 30. If I want
the AOV of a normal lens I usually grab the M 35mm f2 which is
equivalent to a 50mm on film. If I were you I'd look for the A35 f2 or
the FA35 f2 either of which is more in keeping with a relatively fast
normal lens in size and AOV. Both are less expensive than the 31 used
and you can probably find the FA new. If on the other hand the 30mm is
a collectors item of sorts. it's relatively rare, and still usable on a
current camera, (abet with limitations as Pen tax's literature is wont
to say), a factor which may help keep it's value high in the future.

Things should be made as simple as possible -- but no simpler.
