I feel for you and I too am bothered by the idea of a dedicated rechargable battery. The only upside is that the bats are supposed to be long lasting (500 shots w/50% flash use) and, if they are priced well, you can always have more on-hand for backup. For an old film/video guy like me though, this is rote behavior.
