Aha. The Pentax K10D seal is around the lens mount-to-body position,
then. Not for sealing lenses to the body. The seal you highlight on the
1D is similar. In that case, unless they start building sealed lenses
(with a seal on the mounting flange as well) the lens-to-body will be
the sealing weak point.

Correct. It's a rubber (or similar) gasket. Prone to wear and age, but
after 2 years i have noticed no degredation on my 2 L lenses.
