Detest away. ;-) My Sony R1, which I've taken 2,300 exposures with since I bought it in January, is still on its third battery charge using the "proprietary" FM50 battery that's in it. It's not a $49 Sony OEM battery, though, it's an aftermarket battery that cost me $25, so I find it hard to call it "proprietary". Compared to the best performance I get with the DS ... 1300 exposures with an $8-10 set of disposable Lithiums, I've just about matched the cost of feeding the DS already for a similar number of exposures, and it will become cheaper here on out as these batteries should last 500-1000 full discharge cycles at least. If I can get performance like that from a custom form factor Li-Ion battery, the heck with AA form factor. I'll buy two batteries and never be out of power.
