Detest away. ;-)

My Sony R1, which I've taken 2,300 exposures with since I bought it
in January, is still on its third battery charge using the
"proprietary" FM50 battery that's in it. It's not a $49 Sony OEM
battery, though, it's an aftermarket battery that cost me $25, so I
find it hard to call it "proprietary".

Compared to the best performance I get with the DS ... 1300 exposures
with an $8-10 set of disposable Lithiums, I've just about matched the
cost of feeding the DS already for a similar number of exposures, and
it will become cheaper here on out as these batteries should last
500-1000 full discharge cycles at least. If I can get performance
like that from a custom form factor Li-Ion battery, the heck with AA
form factor. I'll buy two batteries and never be out of power.
