Someone asked about point and shoot cameras that also take movies. I
hadn't tried shooting movies with the 5 megapixel Panasonic DMC-TZ1
at that time, but I did today. I'm quite impressed. It shoots in
either 16x9 or 4x3 format. Speeds from 10fps to 30 fps. In 16x 9,
30fps mode, it can record nine minutes, 44 seconds on a 1 gig SD
card. In 4x3 mode, it records more than 11 minutes. It has continuous
autofocus, and it maintains focus quite well. The movies are stored
as quick time mov tiles. They look very good on my computer monitor.
The Panasonic has a Leica 10X zoom. Good glass for a P&S.
