Better way to put it. If you see the f-stop listed in the image info,
you know that the lens was an A or later, AND it was set to the "A"
setting on the aperture ring (if it has one).

If you set an A, F or FA lens' aperture ring to a non-A setting, you
get the same behavior as an older K or M lens.
