If an E-6 film is processed in C-41 chemistry (this is the common cross processing error), the result is an unmasked negative image. It might be possible to scan the image as a negative, then invert it and remask it to remove the colour cast. It sounds like Cory's problem is bad photography more than bad photofinishing though.
