Dave,

Good luck with your new (old) D1H.

The D1H, really, is a D1 with all the problems fixed
:-).

Until the advent of in-body SR, it might have been the
best low-light camera available. I think it still
probably has the lowest noise levels of any DSLR
because of those HUGE pixels.

My D1 (a Nikon refurb) was, unfortunately, defective.
It had horrible banding problems. I was told by people
on DPReview that this was a known problem and I needed
to have the something-or-other (oscillator sticks in
my mind) replaced. Just out of curiosity, I sent an
e-mail to Nikon nicely detailing the problem. Their
response was downright nasty. I'd already made up my
mind to give back the D1, but the nastiness of their
response did help influence my decision not to buy a
D70...

Today I would not buy a D1-series beacuse it has those
huge, heavy NiMH batteries. But then, the current (!)
pro Canons still have the same batteries, amazingly...

Anyhow, I'm now so smitten with the idea of in-body SR
that I can't see myself buying another Nikon OR Canon
for a long time.

New Doug
