The rebate was offered just before the product launch, not after. It was a sudden decision and I believe it was to counter Sony at the time. It may have ended on 7/31 but I am not sure. I do not think Pentax sell their new products at loss. If you analyzed K100D, except for the SR, it cleverly use essentially old and cost-effective components.
