Hey gang... Let's just say it has been a really long time since I've been on the list. Probably long enough so most of you don't remember me at all. In any event, I wish again to say hello to all of you and to relay a few pix taken with my newest toy.
I'm no longer living in the San Francisco Bay Area as I've moved up into the Sierra foothills of Grass Valley, California. It's beautiful here at the 2000 foot level. So much so in fact that it took some convincing for me to want to go on vacation to see relatives in San Diego last week. While there I shot a bunch of pix with Optio W10 in the pool near my sister's place. I had mentioned to my wife that we really should upgrade our Olympus 1.3M digi camera that I've had forever and to my delight she suprised me with the Optio for my b-day in June. Since I'm a diehard film shooter, I never made the leap to a DSLR, and frankly, the Pentax DSLR's have never really impressed me. I was bugged by the never to be released MZ-D and for a long time waited for a full sized sensor on a Pentax. However, I've come to my senses and no longer sweat the APS size sensor but I think I'll wait for the 10MP model to finally take the plunge. Speaking of the plunge, it's something entirely possible with the Optio. I took it right into the pool with me and I was fairly impressed at the performance of this true all-weather camera. I even shot some video with it and the audio underwater is something to hear. Since my two year old daughter is just learning to swim it's a treat to have a camera that I don't need to worry about getting wet but that can go right into the pool with her. Since I wear contacts, I never opened my eyes to frame what I was shooting at but even then some of the shots came out rather well. Here's a short gallery of shots from that day: http://www.members.aol.com/figgaro/index.htm Really fun little camera. I was very incredulous when I took it out of the box but have since come around to see that it's a great little point and shoot. There's no zoom range, really. The screen is big but nearly impossible to see in the sun. It's really small so people with large hands (like me) will find it a bit persnicky to handle but all in all a fun little camera. Oh, and it takes a rechargable battery so there's no bats to buy all the time. Plus, the menus are easy to navigate. Anyway, hello again to everyone. -Brendan MacRae __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
