I don't disagree that ISO should be visible in the viewfinder; even if it were, the D's implementation would still be terrible. No matter what, you have to change your hand position to change ISO. With a film camera, this was acceptable because you don't change ISO in mid-roll.
Any function that makes me stop shooting to adjust it is badly implemented, and I mean full-stop -- I have to move a hand position and move my head or move the camera.
