I don't think its luck, its more like awareness. You're aware of the quality 
light & the effect it can have on an image. It took me a long time to get 
that awareness & because of it there are  numerous outdoor images I see in 
poor light that I just don't attempt to take. I try to limit my outdoor 
photography to those times of the day when the quality of light is best - 
the so called golden light/time.
