I concede the point for that kind of situation!

My usage of monopods has so far been restricted to low-light concert  
situations with mid-length (28-75) zooms.  The ballhead is quite  
handy in that situation to flip the camera onto its side from time to  
time.

Mostly I was amused by the image of someone trying to brace a monopod  
against a wall or something in order to get the "portrait" shot. :-)
