Well I finally decided that I needed to speed up my memory card downloading - especially with an eye toward a couple of jobs coming up - so I decided to look into getting an IEEE1394 card reader. And with the prospect of the new K10D and SD cards (grrrr...) in the near future, a multi-format, or at least CF and SD, reader seemed the way to go. Surprisingly enough, there aren't a lot of them around. I ended up ordering an Addonics AESDMD2FW "Mini Digidrive". It arrived yesterday and though I don't have another Firewire card reader with which to compare it, I can certainly tell that it's much faster than my current USB2 card reader. (Over twice as fast, which leads me to suspect that my old card reader isn't operating at full USB2 speed, but that's another story...)
Here's the buy.com link for this item: http://www.buy.com/prod/Addonics_Mini_Digidrive_7_In_1_Flash_Reader_Firewire_2_Slots/q/loc/101/10341066.html They aren't kidding when they say that this item sells out quickly: I went through a lot of on line shops and couldn't find *any* that had it when I originally ordered it. It was back-ordered about a week before it shipped. -- Mark Roberts Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com 412-687-2835 -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
