I think you're underestimating a bit... * It needs to look presentable, obviously. * It shouldn't distract from the photos as they are the subject of the display. * Any text should be kept to an absolute minimum by default, unless your audience would benefit from it (eg other photographers might be interested in exif data, but most people aren't). * It needs to work well at different screen resolutions (I often wish people would stop running everything maximised on their 1600x1200 screens). Preferably without requiring the full-screen mode offered by some browsers. * Above all else, it needs to work in all browsers. Without requiring Javascript, Web2.0, Ajax, blogs, mashups, wikis, or whatever the latest flavour-of-the-month is. Use them as much as you like, but don't rely on them. * Feel free to add more of your own; the above is just off the top of my head.
