Front elements aren't very expensive to replace. To me, it's worth 
taking a chance on it rather than adding more glass. Plus, I'm very 
careful with all my lenses. I haven't damaged one in thirty years or 
so, and I've owned at least fifty, probably more. (In the late 
seventies, I dropped a 50mm fuji lens and dented the filter ring.)
