I am somewhat surprised that you didn't just use one of the video
editing packages (Ulead, Adobe) to create a final mpg that can be
played safely without taxing the heck out of your software.  You have
extremely fine control with the apps to create whatever you want.  I
do DVD slideshows all the time out of still pictures and transitions
and music that are timed exactly frame by frame to the music as I
desire.  The final result is either a burned DVD or mpg that can be
played on almost any kind of system.

Care to eloborate why this particular software was chosen?
