If you want to use a wire you can control a small relay with a battery nearer the camera. But many bird photographers use wireless shutter releases and you could do a Google search for information about these. I know someone who does this but can't give you details because he's working on a project that will eventually be marketed. I can tell you that for releasing the shutter he's using off the shelf wireless equipment.
