Photo gear, with lots of both black and shiny surfaces, can be tricky
to photograph well. I normally don't bother with TTL flash metering
or anything like that. I use a Sunpak 383 with Lumiquest Mini Softbox
and a Paterson EFlash panel, a couple of diffusers, and experiment
with settings until I get an exposure that works.
Bounce and diffuser broaden the light and soften the contrast nicely.
A little directional illumination makes it sparkle. Then edit in
Photoshop...
