That's considerably lower than most of the other estimates I've seen.
It's generally expected to be priced to be competitive with the D200
or the 30D, which would put it closer to the $1300-$1600 bracket.
I'm budgeting $2K for the camera plus battery grip & some SD cards.
I think that there are three cameras and the top two are getting
confused here, which could lead to the pricing difference.

10MP Semi-pro (D replacement, K10D)
10MP consumer (DS replacement, K100D)
6MP cheapie (DL replacement,K1000D)
All with SR, but only the top-end one gets a grip, PC sync and
button-based interface, the other two are menu-based, smaller buffer,
lower fps and lighter build.
