Hmmm, it looks parallel to the protective flange. However, there _are_ two
parallel, diagonal scratches on the outside of the actuator. I'll take a
good look at the lever when I have the lens apart.

Also, it could be that lubrication from the focusing thread has migrated onto the base of the aperture blades. This doesn't necessarily show through the glass. That's what had happened to the one I owned. It's not very difficult to take it apart and clean it, though. IIRC, the blades can be accessed from the back, by removing the bayonet.
