I like the color version a LOT better. There is some detail there that just
doesn't render as well in B&W.

I totally agree with you, Marnie... The color version is much, much
better. The first word that crossed my mind when I saw the b/w version
was - "official"... The photograph looked too official, too symmetric,
too much like a post card.
Color of the color version adds life, adds sense of presence, adds
immediate desire to see a big print, makes this photograph work for me.
Just my pixels...
