Not cruel irony but a factor of the "introduced species" dilemma. Starlings are able to out-compete native birds for resources (nest cavities for example) and possibly have a more general diet than native species. It isn't that they are "more readily available to photograph" but that the native species we'd "prefer" to photograph are so uncommon these days. :-(
