I don't think that anyone's saying the "everyone must use bicycles". Hell, I say even if you don't enjoy it, you shouldn't do it.
However, there are alternatives, such as "adult tricycles" that suit certain disabilities. Some of these things are pretty high-tech, and built for racing, so they're light and fast.
