The guy that wrote those articles is Chris MacAskill, President of Smugmug, the photo sharing service.
He's done a bit of research on this topic to help his customers get predictable results. I think the bottom line is, if you use Adobe RGB it will look washed out when viewed with a windows based browser that expects sRGB.
