Canned modes don't apply any of the custom functions or other useful
settings.
so I use Tv for Action/Sport, M anytime I know better what I'm doing
and AV for all other normal situations.
I rarely use anything but M, picking an aperture to get the look I'm
after and then making minor adjustments to shutter speed when needed.
For sports I find TV isn't really appropriate -- why do you suggest it?

Tv's a good no-brainer for action shooting, set 1/500 and run with it. I
can see why an experienced shooter like yourself would use M though.
Personally, I've always used M or Av set near wide open for any action
I've shot.
