Usually it is beleived that K lenses are a bit better (or much better sometimes) compared to M ones. M were meant to be compact lenses so I guess sometimes quality had to be down from K lenses. That said M lenses are still very good ones for the most part.
I had the M for many years and loved it. It compared very favorably to my Contax 50mm 1.4 (which led me to sell that lens and camera -- why did I need it if the M 50 1.4 was as good or better?). It died a hero one night and I've been without a 50 1.4 for about three years, until I picked up an F 50 1.4 to go with my DS2. My subjective impression is that the F is even better than the M, though obviously I've not compared the two heads-up. I used the M primarily wide open, and I do the same with the F.
