All DSLR's below 1500 USD are probably consumer cameras.
(The more expensive ones are mostly for photographers or enthusiasts.)
These are in the same price range as a lot of other consumer products like a
TV, a computer, a stereo, a dish washer, washing machine, fridge, a cooker
etc.

In Denmarks 90% of the families have a computer. 70% of all persons have
internet access from home. 20% of all families have a web site. Of people
below 50 probably 95% has a computer. All those people are potentially
buyers of a digital camera, some of which will be DSLR's. So, I guess the
market for digital cameras is huge. Only some of them will want a bulky
DSLR. Most people probably prefere a small (slim) camera for the pocket or a
camera built into the cell phone or PDA. People who don't (like me) go out
to take photographs - most people who just take pictures while doing other
things, will not want a DSLR.
