Depends on the distance from subject to softbox. Put the softbox as
close to the subject as you can without getting it in the picture if
you want maximum softness and wrap around light. The hardness or
softness of a light source depends on its apparent size from the

I read almost these exact words on a website discussing softbox usage.
Is there a reference you would be happy to share? I certainly am not in
the position to discount Bob, but I would welcome a longer analysis,
perhaps with graphics or examples. I find it counterintuitive that
closer gives soft and wrap-around. I thought bouncing is the way to go
(and that increases the distance if anything).
