It does stand to reason that we met when while taking fencing

Cool. I had lessons from a fencing master who went on to be the
choreographer on Star Wars for the light sabre duels. For the life
of me, I don't recall his name.
The fencing master at UC Santa Cruz whom I studied under was Charles
A Selberg, a World Gold Medalist from the Hungarian games in saber
and foil. He was also quite a fine graphic artist and, when he
retired from teaching, went into video production. He should 76 this
year, lives in the hills near the California/Oregon border. Quite a
character! I should go up and rattle his cage, it would be fun ... I
haven't seen him since about '89 or so.
Ah, you're pushing me to remember stuff I'd long forgotten. Through
Chuck I met Tom Lehrer, the folk singer/political satirist and
mathematician. Tom taught Mathematics at Harvard two quarters of the
year and taught American Folk Song at UCSC in Spring quarter. Now
*that* was a character. :-)
