I recently enabled myself with the Sigma 70-200 APO, it's a very good lens. I 
can't comment on the 50-500 as I've never used one, but the 70-200 is 
noticeably better than my Sigma 135-400 APO was within the same range, 
however the 135-400 is not an EX lens like the 50-500. Even when fitted with 
a 2x EX converter the 70-200 is at least as good as the 135-400 although the 
135-400 was never a bad lens, I never liked the ergonomics of it (extending 
barrel).
